Celebrate Desiree’s 100th Release!

Posted in 1-800-DOM-help, erotic romance novels, New Release with tags , , , , , , , on April 15, 2011 by Michelle Polaris

This month Desiree Holt celebrates her 100th release with Downstroke from Ellora’s Cave. Downstroke is the story of lovers, reunited after twenty years, trying to bridge a gulf of bitterness while outwitting a killer.

It’s been twenty years since Charley Roper and Dallas Creed parted with great bitterness. In that time she’s made a career for herself with the FBI and private security and he’s been a country rock music icon…tumbled to the bottom and risen again. Now someone’s trying to kill him and Morgan Creed wants Charley to protect his brother and find out who’s after him. When they meet again after all this time it’s obvious the chemistry is still there, stronger than ever. They’re older but are they wiser? Caught up in the bitter wash of memories and the tension of a killer in stalking mode, Charley and Dallas begin a roller coaster ride that is emotional, erotic and suspenseful.  Is their love strong enough after twenty years to pull them back together?

As part of the celebration, Desiree is giving away a prize every day of the reader’s choice from her backlist. Names will be drawn from those who post comments and a grand prize of a refurbished Netbook with digital DVD drive will be awarded to one lucky winner. After you (the reader) post, go to Desiree’s web site at  and enter to win the grand prize.

And to help her celebrate I’m giving you a taste of one of her other books. Below find an excerpt from one of her recent books, Delight Me, part of the 1-800-DOM-help series in which I’m also a part.

Delight Me excerpt:

The room was redolent with the scent of the cinnamon candles. Dani Maguire ducked her head, trying to find a breath of clean air. Alan loved the scent of cinnamon. Even insisted she drop cinnamon-scented crystals in the water when she bathed. But she’d reached a point where the aroma of cinnamon nearly made her gag.

Or maybe it was Alan Powell who made her gag. Two years in this relationship and try as she might, lately she couldn’t seem to find the key to make it work. He was a loving Dom, demanding but considerate, yet something deep inside her kept rebelling.

Still kneeling on the floor, hands manacled behind her, lips aching from stretching around the girth of Alan’s cock, she wondered where they could go from here. She didn’t love him. The sex was still great but she no longer found it…fulfilling. And that presented a problem.

Alan bent to unlock the handcuffs and used his hands beneath her elbows to help her rise. His tall, lean body dwarfed her small one, surrounding her with his masculinity, a sensation she usually enjoyed. But lately everything seemed to be just a little off.

“I worked you hard tonight,” he murmured, long fingers brushing her hair back from her face. “I’m going to draw a hot bath for you, with those salts that you like, and bathe you just the way you always enjoy it.”

But did she enjoy it? Did it please her? Or had it become an irritant? What she really wanted was to bathe him.

Get over it, Dani. You’re just going through a phase.

But was she?

She stayed in the same position until Alan lifted her and carried her to the bathroom, lowering her gently into the fragrant bath. The heated water stung the skin of her ass where Alan had disciplined her earlier. She’d been less than enthusiastic about using her mouth on him, and although she’d done her best to hide it, he’d been all too aware of it. Bending her over the bed, he’d used the thin quirt on her, striping her buttocks with ten well-placed strikes.

When he finished, he’d lowered her to the floor, held her mouth open with his fingers and worked his cock back and forth across her tongue. Somehow she’d dredged up a semblance of desire and given him the release he needed. She knew he wasn’t happy but when he finished he hadn’t said a word. Simply bent down to kiss her and went to draw the bath.

“Just relax,” Alan murmured, squeezing the bath sponge. “You know I’ll take care of you. Don’t I always?”

Yes, he did. But somehow over the past few months she found herself enjoying it less and less.

“Dani?” His voice sharpened. “I asked you a question.”

She blinked her eyes. “Yes, Master. You do.”

That wasn’t the question she needed to answer though. She needed to understand why that care had suddenly become so suffocating. Why she had begun to resent it in little ways.

One of his large hands cupped the back of her head, bracing her body as he skimmed the sponge over her breasts. She closed her eyes and tried to relax at the light-as-a-feather touch. A pinch on one nipple startled her and her eyes flew open. Alan’s eyes were staring directly into hers, a strange look playing over his face.

“Tell me to pinch your nipples again,” he commanded.

She swallowed. “Pinch my nipples again, Master. Please.”

He took each one in turn between thumb and forefinger and squeezed them hard enough that lust shot straight to her core, making the inner muscles of her cunt flutter.

“Well, that hasn’t changed.” His voice had an oddly hard edge to it.

Welcome lovelies to my Valentine’s Day promo. I’m in the mood for romance. Wicked romance in particular. So I thought I’d drag out the virtual jewelry box of erotic romance. Below I’ve featured pictures of jewelry sent to me by wonderful authors in this genre. Some images are pieces from the authors’ personal favorites. Others are photos of the jewelry featured in their books and worn by their wonderful characters. Take a moment to read what they have to say about their pictures and stories. Follow the links and find out more about the erotic possibilities in their books. Read through to the end of the blog for contest details and the opportunity to win a gift card from Good Vibrations. That way you can do a little shopping to make every day a sexy celebration.

From erotic romance author Cris Anson:

This exquisite cameo was given to me by my husband at a time when he was working long hours (in other words, having little time for me) trying to get his business established. Thus I was floored that he’d been able, not only to buy me something personal, but to find a piece that made me feel he’d chosen it because it was the way he envisioned me.

Likewise, I feel that Rolf Thorvald, the hero of DANCE OF THE ROGUE, had a similar notion. Even though he’s been tagged a “bad boy”, he’s really a romantic at heart. So when he sees this cameo profile of a beautiful woman with long, flowing hair, so unlike the usual Grecian or Victorian carvings with prim upswept hairdo, he knows it’s just right for Fantine. Valentine’s Day is coming, and he’d love to see her wearing it on a black velvet ribbon around her throat…and nothing else.

Lady Carlton nee Katie O’Roarke, the heroine of my new Spice novel, The BLONDE SAMURAI, receives jewelry from her rather abusive husband on her wedding day (“Family heirlooms including a garnet necklace surrounded by stars, a diamond brooch with a large ruby in the center and a turquoise bracelet set off with diamonds. Cold stones given with a cold heart).

However, being an Irish-American lass from a working class family before her father made his fortune in railroads, she treasures her first set of pearls, jewelry that she purchases with royalties from writing her memoir.

Included in the photo above is her favorite black lace corset and her string of pink pearls.

For Valentine’s Day sexy REV ME UP hero Antonio buys Lisa a crystal-studded bellybutton ring, and a bottle of Dom Perignon to share, after he sips from her lovely navel.

REV ME UP summary:  Lisa has always been a Good Girl. When she flashes her breasts at the hunk riding by on his Harley, her wild impulse seems like harmless fun. How could she know he’d hit the curb and land at her feet? To make amends with the cop from Santa Fe, Lisa agrees to have a cocktail with him. When she slides on the bike’s rear leather seat and wraps her arms around Antonio’s buff body, they take off on the ultimate ride.

Antonio’s in town for his brother’s graduation before heading to FBI training. Lisa is there to break up with her cheating midshipman boyfriend. Revenge sex with a hot cop may be the perfect way to unleash her inner Bad Girl. But can she keep her feelings casual?

With sexy Antonio by her side and the lust blazing between them, this Bad Girl may have a chance to have it all. As long as an ex-boyfriend out for revenge doesn’t destroy her new happiness.

From erotic romance author Cara McKenna:

The so-called heroine Caroline from my upcoming novella, BRAZEN, doesn’t wear any jewelry of note in the story, but I got to thinking what sort of pieces she’d favor if asked. She’s nearing forty and a self-proclaimed conservative, or as conservative as you can get while maintaining a secret stable of eager young men in your tasteful Boston brownstone. On the outside she’s a cultured divorcee, a lover of old movies and good wine and rainy evenings spent by the fireplace. Behind closed doors her tastes run a bit darker, to the tune of a half-dozen good-looking, obedient young men. And so the perfect type of jewelry came to me: black pearls. Sophisticated, but ever-so-slightly sinister. Caroline to a tee.

From erotic romance author Shelley Munro:

My favorite piece of jewelry is a Pandora bracelet that my  husband purchased for me. He arrived home from work early last year and presented it to me – a total surprise out of the blue. I really like it because each charm on the bracelet has personal meaning and brings back good memories. Plus I like the jingling sound it makes, but it’s difficult to sneak anywhere!

In HOUSE OF THE CAT the hero Ry Coppersmith gives Camryn and the other two female crew members a ball dress each so they can attend a dance. They’re Regency style dresses and require a base garment beneath to yank in their waists and force their breasts upward. Not one of the women appreciates this kind gift. This short excerpt explains their reasons:

“What was Ry thinking?” Jannike wheezed. “I can barely breathe. How the devil do I fight in this?”

“I don’t believe you’re meant to fight,” Mogens said in his dry way. “It’s a ball. You’re meant to dance.”

“We can always poke out eyes with our fingernails,” Kaya said cheerfully.

“Or stomp on people’s feet,” Camryn added. “Although maybe one look at our hands will do the trick.” She held them up for inspection. “I scrubbed for half an hour and couldn’t remove the dirt.”

“True. My fingernails might work.” Jannike lifted the skirts of her long hunter green gown to inspect one shoe. “The shoes don’t look robust enough for kicking. I’ll need to stick to stomping.” She scratched irritably at the back of her neck, unused to the ornate hairstyle as much as the unaccustomed finery.

“This is a dance,” Ry said sternly from the doorway of the hotel room they’d rented. “There won’t be any need to fight.”

From erotic romance author Dalton Diaz:

One piece of jewelry does stand out above all others in my stories. It is owned by Caroline Ellis, the heroine of ILLEGAL MOVES. She and her hero, Jordan Fox, find some interesting uses for a pearl necklace just like the one pictured here. Do I own one of these? Sorry, not telling!

Excerpt from Illegal Moves ( by Dalton Diaz and Samantha Cayto:

Aarrgh! How many obnoxiously beeping feet did the damn trash truck need to back up?

And when had it run her over?

Caroline opened her eyes to the sight of her own bedroom ceiling. There was no trash truck, just the irritating sound of her alarm clock set to beep instead of the usual screaming rock station. Her muscles hurt because long dormant ones had been brought to life last night. Repeatedly.

Groaning, she rolled over and shut off the offending noise, only to sit up in confusion when her hand hit more than the smooth button.

There, lying across the top off her alarm clock, was her pearl necklace. Caroline wanted to be annoyed but she had to give the man credit. Like Pavlov’s dog, Jordan had found the perfect way to make her wet and craving him in an instant.

Yet she was alone in the bed and, judging by the stillness and blessed lack of sound, alone in her apartment.

From erotic romance author Marilu Mann:

A man’s braided silver chain bracelet…an innocent gift one might give to a lover, right? Well, in SEX AND TROUBLE, Marilu Mann’s next release, a silver chain bracelet means much more than just a nice piece of jewelry. It’s actually a symbol of captivity, and we’re not talking a D/s relationship here, people, we’re talking binding a demon!

Rosier is a Hedonae, a sex demon. He’s been bound to a house and to the earthly plane by a powerful witch, and only another powerful witch can release him. Marielle Greenlea learns, to her dismay, that she’s that witch! Why is she unhappy with having a sex demon at her beck and call? Well, wouldn’t you be if your last lover said having sex with you was like having sex with a Popsicle?

Mari must come into her power, accept who she is, and fight to give Ros what he seeks…release- sexual release – and his freedom. Her fight is on more than one level because she has to fight her attraction to Ros and deal with her father’s former student-turned-enemy.

And finally, from erotic romance author Michelle Polaris (that’s me!):

Although Mira Duncan turns out to be the Mistress of both Roman Nash and Jace Argo, my alpha heroes in BOUND ODYSSEY, the action in the story is too fast paced for either man to get a chance to buy her any lovely jewelry.  They’re too busy running for their lives together in their brutal post-apocalyptic world. But what’s the perfect piece for a Mistress to receive from her submissives? Certainly not any collared choker implying their ownership of her. But I spied this lovely silver whip pendant and chain over at Northbound Leather the other day. And if the boys don’t buy it for Mira, I’m placing it on my own wish list.

Let’s Talk About Sex Baby

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on January 15, 2010 by Michelle Polaris

First I want to welcome Delilah Devlin blog readers who visited this post today after joining me at my guest blog appearance over at her site. Stay tuned at the end, everyone, for a contest opportunity. Now, on to today’s topic.

When a friend linked me to an article the other week from the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine about polyamory, I knew I needed to include the link on my blog.  So here it is:  I was pleased indeed to see mainstream media address an alternative lifestyle in so direct a fashion.

My publisher, Ellora’s Cave, offers a wide selection of stories categorized as ménage. My own story fits into this subset among others. While not all ménage stories involve a committed relationship in the end between the three or plus partners, a good many do. To those one might apply the label of polyamory quite fairly. I guess it’s not considered erotic romance lingo because I don’t hear it used when referring to the sub genre categories as a rule.  A good amount of ménage or poly stories are purchased at Ellora’s Cave, indicating that this lifestyle choice intrigues many.

But putting aside a discussion of whether people are or aren’t into or supportive of alternative relationship  lifestyles, there is something of utmost importance to take from the poly community. Communication.  Being part of such a complicated relationship choice involves great challenge and a great amount of time. And people do it by being explicit about their expectations and needs.

The BDSM lifestyle necessitates a similar need for clear discussion about expectations and boundaries. They even have forms for it.

Perhaps these communities have a jump on many traditional heterosexual relationships where healthy communication about wants and needs and personal limits  is an ideal, but not built into the bargain by necessity.

The web has infinitely increased the opportunities for individuals to talk about sex and lifestyle choices in an open and thoughtful manner. People need all the help they can get with communication in their relationships. It’s damn difficult even under good circumstances. So what do you think about the state of communication today between sexual partners?  Committed or otherwise. I’m talking generalizations, mind you. I appreciate that every relationship is different. Let me know what you think.

One lucky commenter on this post will win a $10.00 amazon gift card. I’ll choose the winner randomly after  the end of the day Monday, January 18th.

Safe, sane and consensual.

KICKIN’ OFF THE HOLIDAYS — Erotic Romance Authors and their Kick-ass Shoes

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on December 14, 2009 by Michelle Polaris
It’s December again, and even erotic romance authors need to gear up to kick some holiday butt preparing for the winter celebrations to come. In the spirit of these winter warriors’ battle to get ready for the holidays, I’ve asked seven of them to contribute pictures of their favorite ass-kicking shoes along with links to their “go-to” sites. These includes their personal web and blogsites, links to buy their books, etcetera. For an extra treat some have included a blurb about which of the characters in their stories are most likely to kick-ass, holiday or otherwise. So browse below and get a feel for the flavors of these authors. Perhaps these are the very sexy and powerful shoes that get them in the mood…to write, of course.
(And read on for a contest at the end of this post)

Naima Simone  —  “Breathlessly Ever After”  – “Hawtie of the Month”

Caitlin, my heroine in “Sweet Ultimatum”, my first release with Ellora’s Cave (notice that shameless plug? Hee-hee-hee!), wouldn’t be the character I’d vote most likely to kick a**. Nah, she’s strong, but not in a black-hoodie-ride-or-die kinda way.

The story I’m currently working on, though, has the perfect kick a** woman. Her name is Erin Montgomery and she is ex-military turned bodyguard. Honed in the fires of a traumatic childhood, Erin emerges a strong, tough soldier who is no longer anyone’s victim. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat, an excellent shot and strategist, there’s no a** she isn’t capable of kicking…except Love’s.

Although the characters I think are most likely to kick ass are my heroes (one is a cop and the other is a medieval baron and knight), I think the heroine of my medieval romance Seeking Truth is a kick ass kind of woman.  Lady Vérité de Sauigni is a healer who marries the medieval baron/knight. Yet when he’s frustrated by a situation in which he feels powerless, Vérité tells him to calm down and shut up or she’ll have him removed from the room. She phrases it more nicely than that but she means every word and my hero, Baron Eaduin Kempe knows it. He’s ticked and intrigued by her at the same time because as a medieval baron, very few people can tell him off. Now, Vérité would never wear a pair of stilettos because she’s medieval but even so, a kick ass pair of shoes would fit her well.

My kick-ass heroine lives in a galaxy not so far away. Brought up by and living among men, Nathelie wouldn’t be caught dead wearing heels. She wouldn’t know how to. Nate kicks butt as good as any man, but when it comes to showing off her feminine side… Let’s just say, she wouldn’t know how to. I think I’ll put a pair on Nate and watch her deal… (This is a WIP. Bound Odyssey received 5 stars from Just Erotic Romance Reviews and was a Reviewer Top Pick at Night Owl Reviews

In Bound Odyssey, all three of my characters are more than capable of kicking bad-guy ass. But if you asked either Roman or Jace, my heroes, they’d tell you hands down that Mira could kick theirs in no time flat. Actually, she’d have them down on the ground, arms wrenched behind their backs, and crying uncle faster than a jackrabbit on speed. But of course they’d say that. She’s their Mistress and where else would they want to be? (grin)

Now don’t you feel closer to these fine writers after seeing their favorite footwear? I hope you’ve enjoyed the pics and the character teasers from these authors. Browse their links and tell me what you think.  Which pair of these kick-ass shoes inspires you to go out and become your own heroine or hero of an erotic romance? One random commenter who tells me which pair of shoes they’d pick will win a set of Cosmo’s Steamy Sex Games erotic cards. On top of it I’m giving away another one of those yummy scented massage candles in a contest. Bourbon this time. The guys will love the smell (wink, wink). Visit the interview then pop back over here to enter the contest.

To enter the contest you have to do a couple things. First, click over to my yahoo newsletter group and sign up. I promise you no high volume mailings. Second, leave a comment on this blog, telling me you signed up and mentioning the name Blackraven mistakenly called me during her interview. The woman is overworked. She desperately needs that vacation she mentioned beginning.

I am thrilled out of my pants (okay, not literally, I am still wearing pants despite this being an erotic story) to announce the release of BOUND ODYSSEY today at Ellora’s Cave. Read an excerpt to get a taste. This is my first romantic, erotic novel and I’m very proud of it. Release day is a whirlwind event for me because I’m on the road to the New Jersey Put Your Heart in a Book conference which also launches today. If you happen to be attending, look for me.

The novel is a futuristic, post-apocalyptic BDSM story during which Mira Duncan, Jace Argo and Roman Nash, three very alpha characters, meet and fall in love despite their best efforts. Here’s the blurb:

The year is 2067 and Earth is self-destructing from environmental cataclysms. A portal to a new world is ripped open and refuge there is Earth’s only hope. Enter Jace, cowboy diplomat, who is preparing for the negotiation of a lifetime. A sexually conflicted alpha male, he hates everything with a cock, especially himself. The last thing Jace expects is to fall in love with both a woman and a man.

His dark history presents the ultimate challenge to Mira and Roman, the sexual Dominant team hired to prepare Jace for the female-dominant culture of the new world. Tragedy has made Mira distrust her Mistress abilities. Survival is her priority, and she resists her deep attraction to Jace’s haunted eyes and sculpted body.

Roman, however, falls hard and fast for Mira and Jace, ready to honor Mira as his Mistress and force Jace to recognize him as Master. Bound in one another’s chains and pushed to the limits of arousal and pain, they must outrun sabotage and conspiracy to find salvation for their bodies, souls and hearts.

In celebration of the release, I’m holding a contest. A random commenter to this blog will win a Pleasure me Purse, a little goody I picked up at Good Vibrations. You can use your imagination as to what it contains or check it out on their site. The contest will run from now until next Friday October 30th at 6pm, after which I’ll draw a winner.

I’ll be interviewed on the Menagerie  on Monday the 26th next week about the release, and Roman, one of my heros, will appear in an interview at The Quirky Ladies, my group blog, next Tuesday the 27th. He’ll be running a contest there as well.

So, in celebration of release day I’ve poured drinks all around. Jace is having vodka straight up. Roman asked for bourbon on the rocks. Mira is having a shot of tequila. No chaser. I, on the other hand, ordered a wimpy, sweet kahlua and cream. Fine, so I can’t whip anyone’s ass. That’s why I create my characters to do it for me (grin).

Please comment and add your drink order. And join my yahoo newsletter group to hear about special additional contests.  You can find the link to join on my website at
